The Nestlé Rowntree Manager of the Month for February has been jointly awarded to George Paskin, general manager, and Lorraine Gattens, stock control manager, at the Glasgow Makro depot.

Between them, Paskin and Gattens have been at Makro in Glasgow for 14 years, having both previously worked in other areas of the retail industry.

Known for their endeavor in improving their business's performance, they have been recognised for this particular award after identifying and capitalising on one particular development opportunity.

Efficient supply from Makro to its traders is essential for the business's success, and both Paskin and Gattens have worked tirelessly to ensure large volumes of stock are accommodated and administered effectively through their depot.

With a large volume of stock going to key traders, it was identified that by improving the stock control even further Paskin and Gattens would generate extra sales and profits for all involved simply by ensuring the traders had the right stock at the right levels and at the right times.

The Glasgow Makro depot chose to work closely with Nestlé Rowntree to maximise confectionery sales using this system. With Paskin liaising closely with the traders, and Gattens booking and managing the deliveries of the stock through the depot and onto the traders' vehicles, a very impressive timetable was developed between Nestlé Rowntree, the Makro depot and the individual trader involved in each delivery. So much so, that when a Nestlé Rowntree delivery arrives at the depot, the timetable is so precise that the delivery can often go straight onto the trader's vehicle which has arrived at the same time.

With Paskin and Gattens also understanding the importance of having the right amount of each product available in their depot, thus enabling them to satisfy any order that may come in, their stock control policy is proving a great success.

In fact, it has resulted in Makro in Glasgow doubling its sales of Nestlé Rowntree products in 2005. Paskin is delighted with this performance. He said: "2005 saw excellent volume growth through the depot and Nestlé's business as we targeted our traders. More of the same for 2006 please."

Outside of work both enjoy spending time with their families, and are big football fans. However, Paskin supports Glasgow Rangers, while Gattens is a fan of arch rivals Celtic.
