Musgrave Budgens Londis has launched a fresh produce trial with Londis stores from its retailer service centre (RSC) at Andover, in Hampshire.

Initially the trial was run with 20 retailers, but results exceeded expectations and the range was immediately offered to a further 20 stores.

Around 30 pre-packed items of fresh fruit and vegetables under the Londis own label were offered in the trial. "All produce is Class 1 quality and comes direct from the growers," said Steve Carter, MBL head of buying - fresh.

The trial was launched with promotions, including buy a pack of vine-ripened tomatoes and get a cucumber free, and four oranges for the price of two. "These 100% extra free offers will be ongoing and feedback from both retailers and their customers so far has been fantastic," said Carter.

Arjan Mehr is trialling the new Londis fresh produce range at his store in Bracknell, Berkshire. He said: "The quality is excellent and the packaging is extremely professional. It meets all the trading standards and we have deliveries five days a week, which is perfect.

"Most produce has at least six days shelf life and because the quality is Class I, unlike our previous third-party supplier, wastage is reduced."
