Landmark Wholesale pushed sales up 3.5% in December, compared with the same trading month last year, and overall growth for its fiscal year was 8%.

In a breakdown of its top 70 supplier sales, Landmark was 4.3% ahead of the previous year.

Managing director Martin Williams commented: "Our top 70 supplier sales report confirms that Landmark, its members and the independent retail sector as a whole is still performing strongly and is, in the majority of categories, in growth.

"All categories were up on last year's sales, with the exception of crisps and snacks. However this is following the market trend for this category, and we hope to improve on this next year.

"Overall our company sales are up 8% which puts us in an excellent position as we move into the current trading year. With our redefined vision and strategy launched with our name change at the end of last year, we are confident that we can build on this success and continue to grow within the industry."
