CJ Lang & Son has been crowned the best wholesale business in Scotland after claiming four awards, including Best Retail Wholesaler (Delivered) and the Champion of Champions accolade, in Scottish Wholesale Achievers 2006. The Spar wholesaler also won Best Retail Development Programme and Best Training Programme.

Claire Smith, sales and marketing director at CJ Lang, commented: "We are absolutely delighted to have been recognised by our own industry in this way and I attribute our success to our people and CJ Lang's team spirit - it's very much what the company is all about.

"Across all divisions of our business - Spar Scotland, foodservices and cash and carry - it is important that we work very closely and communicate effectively with our customers. Achievers has helped us focus even more firmly on the need to constantly raise our game and adapt to the ongoing needs of our customers and a changing marketplace."

Achievers was launched by the Scottish Wholesale Association (SWA) four years ago with the aim of recognising professionalism and excellence and improving standards within all sectors of the wholesale industry in Scotland. Some 430 wholesalers and suppliers attended the gala dinner and awards presentation at the Sheraton Grand, Edinburgh.

Other winners were: Best Cash & Carry, Booker Cash & Carry, Hamilton; Best Cash & Carry Catering, Bellevue Cash & Carry, Edinburgh; Best Licensed Wholesaler (Off-Trade), JW Filshill, Glasgow; Best Licensed Wholesaler (On-Trade), Wallaces Express, Irvine, Ayrshire; Best Foodservice Wholesaler, Brakes; Best Marketing Initiative, United Wholesale (Scotland), Glasgow; Outstanding Individual Achiever, Athif Sarwar, managing director, United Wholesale (Scotland).

In the supplier awards InBev UK's Tennant's "Black Magic" won the Best Advertising Campaign, PepsiCo won the Best Marketing Initiative with Walkers Nobby's, and Coca-Cola Enterprises won the award for the Best Overall Service by a Supplier.
