A new purpose-built Bestway depot in Leicester has been opened by local MP Keith Vaz.

The 75,000 sq ft depot, which replaces the previous Leicester depot, has an expanded offering including a fresh meat counter and a much wider choice of fresh and frozen food. It will be open seven days a week and will serve more than 2,500 independent retailers and caterers on both a cash and carry and delivered basis.

Vaz said: "Bestway has run a highly successful nationwide cash and carry operation for many years and I was delighted to be able to officially open this impressive new depot in Leicester."

Sir Anwar Pervez, chairman of the Bestway Group, said: "I would like to express my thanks to our suppliers and to everyone at the depot for their tireless work during the move. The result is magnificent."

Younus Sheikh, managing director of the cash and carry division, added: "The opening of this depot is the first of three new depots which will replace some of our original branches.

"Bestway is clearly investing more than anyone else in the future of independent retailers and caterers by ensuring that our environment is the best possible for our customers and our operations."
