The chairman of Capper & Co, Bill Capper, has received the CBE in the Queen's Birthday Honours.
The former MD of the family-owned Spar company, was awarded the CBE for services to business and to the community in Wales.
Capper took over as managing director of the south Wales Spar distributor in 1968, and since then the company has grown to service 486 Spar stores across south Wales and south east England. He became executive chairman in May last year and has served two terms as chairman of the National Guild of Spar.
Spar managing director Jerry Marwood commented: "I speak on behalf of the entire membership in congratulating him on this extremely well-deserved recognition for all that he has achieved both in business and within his local community."
