HIM is launching a new Cash & Carry Caterer Tracking Programme to complement the Retailer Tracking Programme which HIM has been running for more than four years.

Wholesalers Booker, Makro, CJ Lang, AF Blakemore, Lowries, BA, Batleys and Landmark are all joining the new venture.

HIM director Tom Fender said: "With the decline in number of independent retailers in the UK, wholesalers are targeting caterers and foodservice operators as a growing and important customer group."

According to HIM, of the 300,000 foodservice outlets in the UK about 270,000 are single outlet businesses, meaning cash and carries are a recognised route to market for catering suppliers.

The programme will focus on the caterers' experience of shopping in cash and carries, but will also focus on more macro and attitudinal issues. Around 2,000 caterers will be interviewed face-to-face to help operators and suppliers focus on the needs of their customers.
