Foodservice wholesaler Serious Food Distribution is making a £50,000 investment in a 15-user Accord system from Business Computer Projects.

Serious Food Distribution is the foodservice wing of Serious Food, a juice manufacturer. It provides a nationwide distribution service to hotels, independent retailers and caterers, using its fleet of multi-temperature vehicles to deliver food and fruit juices from its three depots in Slough, Llantrisant and Birmingham.

SFD's growth and need for a more sophisticated system, added to its plans to open a nationwide network of depots, encouraged it to invest in the new technology.

Vince Price, divisional director of SFD, explained: "A key element in securing the contract was BCP's food and drink industry background and consistent track record of delivering successful implementations."

The Accord system covers sales order management, purchasing, stock control, telesales and financial accounting.

The telesales module will enable the team to review stock and promotions while on the phone to clients, allowing them to sell as well as taking delivery orders. Price said: "It will help us to grow the business both in terms of the value of each sale and the number of customers contacted each day."

BCP will work with Eastern Data Processing, a provider of mobile sales solutions, to develop a fully integrated van sales solution for SFD. The system is due to be fully implemented at all three depots by Easter.
