The annual retailer development programmes staged by Bestway got under way last month at the Marriott Hotel, York. The two-day seminar was co-hosted by Nestlé Rowntree and involved a series of talks and presentations on "Getting the most from your business" given by a range of the major suppliers.

About 120 independent retailers from the north of the UK attended the sessions which included presentations by suppliers on the latest trends and market information across a range of sectors.

Geoff Monk, Bestway's head of marketing, said: "The attendance at this annual seminar endorses the fact that the independents are determined to make the best of their businesses by ensuring they remain up to date in providing their customers with the latest products and services."

The second development programme, aimed at independents in the south of the UK, will be at P&G's Brooklands HQ on April 26-27.
