Where are the independent retailers who involve themselves in their community and who uphold the best principles of neighbourhood retailing?

They could be given media training and featured on local radio and TV as the 2006 My Shop Is Your Shop generic PR campaign develops.

Wholesalers are invited to identify retailers to take a more active part in the campaign.

Already a database of about 500 retailers is filed at the Eastbourne offices of the Federation of Wholesale Distributors.

They are known as Community Stars – they receive special packages of T-shirts, caps and balloons for National Independents’ Day on June l.

Alan Toft, MSYS chairman, said: “In addition to helping with in-store theatre, MSYS also has lists of ideas which will help retailers increase their local community involvement.”

A budget is now available to help MSYS give selected retailers professional interview training, he said.

Lists are confidential to FWD. They are not distributed to wholesalers or suppliers under data protection rules.

Names and addresses can be emailed to FWD on
