The Federation of Wholesale Distributors has launched the fourth edition of its Blueprint for Wines in response to the continued growth of the category within the independent sector.
New Blueprint recommendations include Hardys Voyage, Isla Negra, Wolf Blass and Gallo’s Sierra Valley reds and whites. Reflecting the growth in blush wines, Jacob’s Creek and Hardys blush varieties have a place on the plan.
Adhering to one of the first principles of the Blueprint, adequate space is allocated for retailer choice, so that local favourites, or wholesaler exclusive brands and special offers, can easily be incorporated into the fixture. The principle, agreed by the founding suppliers and wholesalers, is unique. It recognises the independent retailer’s need for a point of difference to meet local community demand.
Other brand-sponsored planograms tend to minimise or ignore this aspect which wholesalers believe has been one reason for the success of the Blueprint concept in increasing sales.
As well as covering advice on the range and layout, the planogram also focuses on the opportunity to capitalise on the table-ready market by chilling white and rose wines.
Will Government proposals to ban the display of tobacco in retail premises damage the wholesale sector?
