Twigg receives his award from FWD president Rodney Hunt

The best performers within the wholesale industry – and one of its greatest supporters – were celebrated by a sell-out audience at the FWD Annual Dinner and Gold Medal Awards last week.

In recognition of his contribution to the My Shop is Your Shop campaign, The Gold Medal for Services to the Industry was awarded to Alan Twigg from leading PR agency Nexus communications.

The citation highlighted both Twigg’s work on the PR Action Group, which organsises the MSYS campaign and achieved the media equivalent of £1.5m advertising spend on this year’s National Independents’ Day and also the additional work such as his powerful advocacy of the sector on TV.

Fourteen other Gold Medals were presented. They included: Young Wholesaler of the Year, Kuldeep Maini of Main Cash & Carry; Multiple Cash & Carry Manager of the Year, Andrew Westwood of Costco Leeds; and Independent Cash & Carry Manager David Grimes of AG Parfett, Sheffield.

Independent Depot Manager was Ivan Snelling of Thomas Ridley & Son, and two Gold Medals for Multiple Delivered Depot Manager went to Gordon Moore of 3663, Salisbury, and Michael McCann of Bestway, Northampton. The Gold Medal for Service to Retail went to Naim Khan of Bestway, Luton. Marcus Singh of Hyperama Nottingham, won the Gold Medal for Service to Caterers.
