The Federation of Wholesale Distributors is anticipating developments in the area of market regulation to coincide with the annual industry conference in April.
This follows the ruling by the Competition Appeals Tribunal (CAT) that the OFT must reconsider its decision not to refer the grocery market to the Competition Commission.
Fixed for April 3 & 4, at The Belfry, at Wishaw, the conference could be the first big industry event in parallel with competition watchdog action.
FWD gave evidence to the All Party Small Shops group of MPs calling for an end to giant superstore domination of the market.
John Murphy, director general of FWD, said: “The Federation has a long history of actively campaigning against the giants and working with other trade associations to achieve fair trading.
He added: “When we get to The Belfry in April, we could be in the middle of OFT action against the Big Four. The timing of the conference, as this issue of ProWholesaler goes to press, seems to be just right.”
Will Government proposals to ban the display of tobacco in retail premises damage the wholesale sector?
