Scottish wholesalers have been warned to look carefully at their packaging waste costs in light of recent spiralling increases in the cost of Packaging Recovery Notes.

Scottish Wholesale Association executive director Kate Salmon said a number of members have been shocked by the level of PRN price increases this year and the SWA is anxious to stress to wholesalers that they must be vigilant, reporting any cost increases they view as unreasonable to their trade association, changing away from individual compliance to the most appropriate compliance scheme provider if necessary.

Salmon said: “If a wholesaler has not budgeted for these huge increases because they are not aware of the new legislation, the implications could be serious. No other costs have increased like packaging and it is our intention to write to the Scottish Executive highlighting this unfair burden on our members’ businesses.”
