The Federation of Wholesale Distributors’ series of Blueprints, the educational initiative which secures improved alcohol sales for independent retailers, is developing new links with wholesalers.

In a move which will increase sales through the supply chain, a number of retailers served by one wholesaler will undergo a makeover according to Blueprint planograms.

This will enable the wholesaler to strengthen links with the “cluster” of retailers selected for the exercise.

The Blueprint Cluster Programme will be based on the unique guarantee of increased sales for independents who implement the guidance.

Blueprint director Ross Shelley will direct the programme in the field.

The Cluster activity is only part of new Blueprint sales–increasing activity ahead of Christmas. In a move to increase the independent share of the spirits market, a new trial using anti-theft security caps for litre and 70cl botttles of spirits is to be implemented.

This will enable independents to display spirits on open shelves out in the store, enabling customers to serve themselves, instead of hidden behind the counter where fractionals will remain.

New product selection and display advice has also been launched for the ARTD category.
