Alan Fincham and his team epitomised NID

Londis retailer Alan Fincham of High Street, Attleborough, in Norfolk, has been awarded the £1,000 top prize for his National Independents’ Day (NID) in-store theatre activity.

And John Maxwell Jones, Burgess Stores, Goudhurst, Kent, will also receive an unscheduled £1,000 special award for his successful NID local media work.

Entries were judged by the FWD PR Action Group (PRAG).

Alan Toft, chairman of the My Shop Is Your Shop Campaign which created the annual NID event, said: “Alan Fincham’s use of the Darth Vadar costume was fantastic and impactful – just what we need on NID, real theatre.

“John Maxwell Jones achieved massive local media coverage, a visit from his MP and he put on a cake and cheese tasting too.

“These retailers and other great entrants demonstrated how NID can be used to promote business,” said Toft.

Runners-up prizes of £500 each were awarded to GM & B Makinson Newsagents, Chorley Old Road, Bolton, Lancashire, and the Nisa Family Foodstore managed by Lesley Harwood at Park View, Crewkerne, Somerset.

Every other entrant in the competition will receive a ‘thank you’ cheque of £100 to reward their initiative.
