Premier Foods has awarded its Manager of the Month title to Sarbjit Singh, depot manager at Bestway Cash and Carry's thriving depot serving over 2,500 retailers across Leicester. Sarbjit has worked for Bestway for over 27 years, and has been based at the Leicester depot for 19 years. It is here that he met Premier Foods' business development executive, Graham Goggins.
Sarbjit believes forging a strong relationship with a supplier like Premier is hugely beneficial to both him and his customers: "Through constant communication with Graham at Premier, I am always kept up to date about all new lines and promotions as and when they come through. I also have regular access to up to date information on pricing and top performing products, meaning I can stock my depot accordingly."
He says: "The key to being a good depot manager is caring about your customers and ensuring when they leave your store you have been able to meet all their needs - from good prices all the way through to stocking the most up to date products. Having a strong supplier relationship with Premier means I can continuously offer my customers the latest and the best Premier has to offer, my depot is always fully stocked, well priced, and my customers always get a wide choice by ensuring we hold a vast number of different lines."
Graham Goggins says: "Sarbjit has a great style to managing his depot. He has a fantastic relationship with us the supplier, and his customers, and is always proactive in supporting us in promotions and extra displays. He is very responsive to my visits, and always works with us to ensure he is stocking the right products for his customers, and it is that which makes him so successful. To me it is very clear to see why his branch is always the top performing store in the Midlands."
Sarbjit also works closely with Graham to ensure he is fully aware of all competitor activity and any other initiatives they need to be aware of to offer top rate service and excellent value to its customers. Sarbjit has seen great success through supporting Premier Foods' promotions, and says: "Recently we featured Ambrosia Custard and Rice in a promotion. We used an extra display in front of store for a few weeks driving the customers to see the product. Not only was it great for brand awareness but we saw a 20% increase in sales as a result."
Will Government proposals to ban the display of tobacco in retail premises damage the wholesale sector?
