Rochdale Cash & Carry opened new premises last month after an investment of more than £2.5m.
Previously specialising in drinks distribution, Rochdale opened a 20,000sq ft cash and carry selling a variety of products in July, and is still delivering from a 15,000sq ft depot. The products range from tobacco, ambient and alcohol to chilled and frozen foods.
The new building features a 450sq ft tobacco and alcohol room, and a walk-in chilled room. It also has an IT system which has been designed to provide capacity for expansion of the business.
The company said it decided to become a general cash and carry with a full range of products, aiming to provide service to the local community and satisfy the market, as there was no direct competitor.
Rochdale joined Confex earlier this year and Mussawer Iqbal, general manager of Rochdale, said: "We joined Confex because it is an up and coming buying group in the right direction for what we want to do."
Chris Wootton, business development manager of Confex, said: "We are delighted to have Rochdale Cash & Carry as a new member and anticipate that in collaboration with Confex it will see its growth continue to flourish."
Will Government proposals to ban the display of tobacco in retail premises damage the wholesale sector?
