A picture is worth a thousand words. This is how Lisa Jones celebrated National Independents' Week with a big fun day at her Best-one Express store in Southampton. It could only happen at a local independent store - the picture demonstrates how the MSYS concept enables wholesalers' core customers to host a street party for the local community.

The event enabled Lisa to say two things. "Thanks to you all for your custom over the year" is the first. And she is also saying to her customer base "With my team in the shop I am part and parcel of our community. In addition to supplying your shopping needs on a daily basis, we support neighbourhood activities and share the ups and downs of community life." It's a unique claim which can only be made by Lisa and her fellow 48,000 independent c-stores, newsagents and rural shops.

Lisa's big day was supported by her wholesaler and many suppliers. It raised a big cheque to help refurbish the local community centre.
