Speaking at the Scottish Wholesale Association (SWA) Annual Conference, president Norman Wemyss outlined the media message facing wholesalers.
"We are being fed a constant diet of credit crunches, food inflation, rising fuel costs, workforce strikes, crop failures, congestion and pollution charges and when you whip in to those ingredients a generous proportion of legislative burdens and a sprinkling of sustainability, you have a business mix that the old 'F' word himself may struggle to get to rise."
However, he remained positive for the future: "Over the course of the last 12 months the SWA Council, the members and associate members, alongside our specialist advisors, have all worked as one to deliver real actions. We have trained together to develop our people. We have advised each other and shared best practice on legislative and security issues. We have lobbied the executive to consider the needs of our members."
