Wholesalers investing in expansion of their businesses was a theme which emerged in several presentations at the FWD annual conference last week.
Today's managing director Rodney Hunt highlighted the number of members in his group which were expanding their premises or building new ones.
In addition to substantial investment from United Wholesale (Scotland) in a new 100,000sq ft depot, and Wanis' eco-friendly, state-of-the-art depot in east London, he also listed Anglia Culinary Supplies, Savoy Catering, Wilds, M9, Total Foodservice Solutions, Forward Foods and Harlech Foodservice, all of whom were moving to or building new premises.
In addition, Dhamecha, Cheten Wholesale, Ashcroft Wines and Farm to Freeze are extending depots.
Costco Wholesale trading director Steve Barnett also revealed expansion plans. Costco will open its 20th UK warehouse, in Cardiff, in June, and its 21st is due to open in Croydon in December.
Will Government proposals to ban the display of tobacco in retail premises damage the wholesale sector?
