Wholesalers and their customers celebrated Fairtrade Fortnight (25 February - 9 March) with a variety of events and promotions.
In Ditchling, East Sussex, the local Fairtrade group organised a wine tasting at Chesterton's, the village store and deli.
Two Fairtrade varieties from Booker's range - Steller Organics' South African Chenin Blanc and Merlot - were sampled and the store sold 22 bottles in just two hours.
Retailer Tina Sehmbhy said she was very impressed and delighted by sales of the wine, which she had brought in specially for the event. She would now like to organise her own wine tastings every month.
Sarah Trayler, chair of the group, said: "We are very pleased with the success of the event. Shoppers were very supportive of the Fairtrade concept, and very impressed by the quality of the wine."
Will Government proposals to ban the display of tobacco in retail premises damage the wholesale sector?
