Aylwin: building chilled network |
Musgrave Budgens Londis has appointed former Safeway board member Mark Aylwin as supply chain director.
Aylwin comes to MBL following a career with Safeway, which he joined in 1984, initially in store operations. In 1992 he moved into supply chain management, becoming director of supply chain operations in 1997, followed by promotion to the Safeway plc board as supply director with responsibility for servicing 520 stores through 18 distribution centres.
MBL said Aylwin’s brief would be to develop a national chilled network, drive efficiencies, improve MBL’s service to independent retailers and ultimately to develop the optimum distribution network for a business which currently incorporates 2,200 Londis stores, 75 Budgens independent stores and 160 Budgens corporate stores.
Stores are supplied from four depots – South Elmsall, Andover, Thamesmead and Wellingborough – which together offer coverage across the UK.
MBL managing director Mike Taylor said the appointment supported MBL’s commitment to the independent retail sector. “Investment in our supply chain and distribution logistics is key to our business.
“Our aim is to be the number one supplier to independent retailers and to give them the best possible offer, including chilled, plus a delivery and support service they can count on. Mark’s skills and lengthy experience in food retail can only help us improve and maintain our service.”
Aylwin’s logistics team includes operations director Jon Peggs, and Richard Gibson, who has recently been promoted to logistics manager for MBL with responsibilities including network synergies and distribution flows.
