Model of the planned depot |
James Hall & Co, the Spar distribution company for the north of England, has started work on the first phase of its new distribution depot at Bluebell Way, Fulwood, just off the M6 motorway.
The depot will consist of a 485,000sq ft warehouse plus over 32,000sq ft of office space, a 7,500sq ft training facility, a crèche and a 2,960sq ft Spar store and petrol filling station. The petrol forecourt and store is due for completion this summer with the overall site becoming totally operational within three years.
The new depot has been designed to minimise its environmental impact. It will have a water recycling plant and permission is being sought for a wind turbine to generate all power on the site.
Andrew Hall, managing director of James Hall & Co commented: "It has become clear that our existing premises are past their sell by date. We have to move to gain maximum efficiencies and continue to provide the distribution service expected of independent retailers in the UK's foremost convenience group."
Will Government proposals to ban the display of tobacco in retail premises damage the wholesale sector?
