Musgrave Retail Partners GB has developed a new way of merchandising spirits and snacks together.

Working with Diageo, it has created a 'Grab and go' unit for Budgens and Londis stores. The unit is a three-tiered stand that can hold spirit bottles, mixers, and adult bagged snacks.

Henry Moran, spirits buyer at Musgrave Retail Partners GB, explained: "The Grab and Go drives visibility by bringing spirits out of the kiosk and it makes shopping much more convenient for customers."

Moran said spirits suffer from lack of visibility when they are kept behind the kiosk for greater security, and added: "Data from him! tells us that 64% of consumers can't accurately name the price of a single spirits item, while 11% believe that the price will be higher than it actually is. So, the Grab and go unit drives visibility of both the product and the price."

In trial runs, retailers have seen uplifts of 61% in spirit sales, giving a total category uplift of 7%, which far outweighs any shrinkage, and more Budgens retailers are keen to try the unit."

For the smallest stores with limited space, a kit has been developed that clips on to the kiosk shelf.
