Brakes has reinforced its green credentials by announcing 95% of all the electricity purchased to power its network of more than 70 UK sites will now be energy generated from renewable sources.

Valerie Rands, head of group capital and services at Brakes, said: "Brakes is continually reviewing how best it can limit its impact on the environment, and evaluating and changing the type of energy we consume is part of this commitment.

"By deciding to purchase renewable energy, we are ensuring that electricity generated from reusable sources will continue to grow as a percentage of the UK's total power generation and go some way to decreasing CO² emissions."
