Bidvest Foodservice Group, owner of 3663, has sold its e-commerce company Makella to American e-commerce provider Amphire Solutions.

Full terms of the deal were not disclosed but it includes the acquisition of the on-going business of Makella, its current customers and the entire Makella team.

Fred Barnes, chief executive of Bidvest Foodservice Europe and 3663, said: "We evaluated many options for accelerating Makella's growth and the best option was to allow Makella to have complete independence from Bidvest.

"We are rapidly expanding our business in the UK, Europe and internationally and share Amphire's vision of a single, independent technology provider leveraging both Amphire and Makella's complete knowledge of technology and the foodservice industry for the benefit of the entire industry.

"Amphire has a proven record to acquire and assimilate companies through acquisition to achieve scale and sustainability of its business."

Under the terms of the deal, 3663's transaction management and other services previously supplied by Makella will be managed by Amphire for the next 10 years.

Makella provides e-commerce services for foodservice companies with approximately 9,000 operator, 400 supplier and 50 distributor users.
