Graham McPherson, deputy chairman of Palmer & Harvey, will become President of the Confectioners Benevolent Fund on September 1.

McPherson has been in the confectionery industry for over 30 years, having joining Drakes Sweets Marketing in 1976. This was acquired by P&H in 1978 and he was group managing director of P&H for over 10 years.

McPherson will have his official handover and start his year in office at the Fund's Dining with the President event in September. He is the successor to Richard Bishop, chairman of Sugro.

McPherson said: "I have very much enjoyed being part of the confectionery industry which I have received many benefits from. I am delighted to be taking up the position of President so that I can encourage both the wholesale industry and our manufacturing colleagues to be more involved with this great charity. I look forward to a superb year."
