Martha Ward has been appointed to the newly created role of sales development and implementation manager for Spar.

Spar has created the position because of the amount of innovation that is taking place within the group.

Ward previously worked for four years for Aldi Stores. As an area manager her achievements involved management of four sites with turnovers ranging from £15-18m. She also had full responsibility for sales, costs, recruitment, staff training, auditing and health and safety. In addition, she was involved in opening a new store within an eight-week period and the development of a regional training plan for all levels of store management.

Richard Bennett, retail director of Spar, said: "Martha will initially be supporting RDC sales teams and retailers with the implementation of Spar brand, our Real Deals promotional programme and the footfall drivers of News and Airtime."
