MBL is aiming to make National Independents' Week a success with a retailer tool kit.

The group is urging Budgens and Londis retailers to contact their local MP and newspaper to generate more coverage of NIW. To help with this MBL has distributed a kit which contains a template letter that can also be downloaded from the group's website. Then the retailer can customise the letter to share the things that they do to make their shop vital to their local community.

Ross Halliday, acting marketing director of MBL, said: "It's good to be able to shout about stores that are putting life back into our communities."

Also included in the tool kit is a poster thanking customers for supporting their local independent store, a children's colouring competition, a customer information leaflet template that can be downloaded and customised from the website, and ideas for the seven days.

In addition two million Londis consumer leaflets highlighting the NIW Daily Mirror and Daily Record money-off coupons will be distributed to households in the run-up to NIW.
