Upton: eight years as FD |
Robert Upton, finance director of Spar wholesaler Capper & Co for eight years, has taken over as managing director of the company.
He succeeds Bill Capper, who has been managing director since the death of his father, the founder of the company, in 1968, and chairman since 1971.
Upton joined Capper & Co as company accountant in 1990 from the Christie Tyler furniture group, (part of Hillsdown Holdings) and became company secretary in 1994. He was appointed to the board as finance director in 1997.
Bill Capper, who has taken on the role of executive chairman, commented: “Robert has been a key member of the team at Capper & Co, which over recent years has delivered significant growth in store numbers, sales and profits.
“His appointment as managing director will ensure that this growth continues and that the company’s future and that of our 2,400 very valued employees is secured.”
