Landmark Wholesale member AF Blakemore has staged an open day to encourage local independent retailers to take part in the group's Hot House retail programme, in a bid to help them counter the threat from multiple c-stores.

In the past six months Tesco has announced plans to open three Express stores in the Wolverhampton area and in response, Blakemore's Wolverhampton depot invited over 200 retailers to a special Hot House promotional open day to demonstrate the benefits that the programme could have for their store.

Raj Krishan, retail controller at Landmark Wholesale responsible for Hot House, explained: "You can't fail to notice that the multiples are increasingly moving into the convenience sector.

"Hot House has been designed to regenerate the independent sector by equipping retailers with the support, services and tools to compete with the competition."
