Cert Group, provider of logistics services to the drinks sector, has unveiled plans to create a new service centre in Hoddesdon for its fine wines division, Octavian.
The company is investing more than £20m in a new 192,000sq ft facility, and Cert says it will be the largest bespoke logistics operation for the fine wines sector in the UK. It replaces Octavian's existing operation at Hoddesdon and will have capacity for 28,000 pallets, 17 loading bays and a 70,000sq ft temperature controlled area.
The centre is due to be fully operational in the first half of 2007 and will have capacity for about 25 customers and 20,000 product lines. It will also be capable of handling 120,000 orders and five million cases of wines a year. Michael Lainas, managing director of Octavian, said: "With our business growing and with changes in the fine wines marketplace, we took the strategic decision to invest in the new facility."
