Musgrave Budgens Londis has promoted Mark Torpey to the role of head of retailer support for its independently owned Budgens stores.
Torpey will be responsible for almost 90 stores, and for managing a growing team of regional sales managers.
MBL has pledged to divest all its company owned Budgens stores into the ownership of independent retailers by the middle of 2008, meaning the figure of independently owned stores should grow to about 200.
Torpey has moved from Budgens' corporate business, where he was senior controller. He was responsible for 90 stores covering the region from London to York.
MBL executive director Martin Hyson said: "Mark's role is crucial in the development of our business. He and his team form the major conduit between our independent retailers and all the support functions within the business."
