McCormick joined Batleys in 1985 as buying and operations director after a long career in the industry, starting as a representative and eventually working for Asda and Makro.

Working with Lawrence Batley he was in charge of a dramatic expansion of the group from six to 18 cash and carry depots, in addition to seven delivered pet food depots.

McCormick was managing director at the time of the Batley's acquisition by Bestway Cash and Carry in January 2005 and helped to bed down the successful merger.

Following the acquisition he became non-executive deputy chairman of Batleys.

"He has done so much to help people, both in the business and his impressive work for charity. We wish him an enjoyable and well-earned retirement."
