Nowadays, the politics of food and drink are increasingly being focused on issues such as the environment, sustainability, obesity, binge drinking, labelling and healthy eating. So in some ways it was reassuring to be jolted down memory lane by the Treasury's plain need for more cash - and who knows, perhaps wholesalers took a modicum of stock profit along the way?

IGD notes that foodservice customers account for more than half (54.3%) of cash and carries' frozen sales, and that many cash and carry operators are increasing their frozen offering for this customer group.
