We, too, performed well on wine in spite of the issue of duty fraud on top brands and heavy multiple discounting. Nielsen's suggestion that our sector fared badly cannot be upheld. With a lot of independents buying their spirits stock from the multiples, figures will inevitably be distorted. The really good news is that independent off licences and licenced convenience stores still have plenty of opportunity for growth in this category.
